Gas & Electric Water Heaters
Nothing is worse than finding out your home is without hot water or having to wait several minutes before it finally warms up.
However, as most water heaters last for between 10 and 12 years, it’s bound to happen eventually.
Fortunately, our gas & electric water heater repair and installation services are just a phone call away. If you live in or around Holmdel, Keyport, Old Bridge, Matawan, or Aberdeen, O’Gorman Brothers Plumbing is ready to help.
The Top 3 Reasons for Water Heater Repair and Installation
There are many reasons you may need our gas and electric water heater repair and installation services.
For the most part, our customers call us for one of the following three reasons:
1. Sediment Buildup
Without a doubt, the most common problem with water heaters is sediment buildup. As water is heated, minerals (especially calcium and magnesium) and limescale build up in your water heater. Unless they’re filtered out, they create sediment, which will keep the burner from working properly and hurt your water heater’s performance.
2. Energy Waste
Did you know that water heaters use more energy than almost any other component in your home? It can easily be responsible for as much as 25% of your utility bill. As time goes on, it only becomes more expensive, too. Many new models are considerably more energy-efficient, as well, which is a good reason to replace yours before it’s time comes.
3. Old Age
Even the best water heaters eventually quit working. As we mentioned earlier, the closer yours gets to its 10th birthday, the closer it is to retirement. We recommend replacing yours before it quits working, but if you are no longer getting hot water in your home, that’s obviously a sure sign that you need a new water heater.
Replacing an Old Water Heater Should Be Left to the Professionals
Many home repair and maintenance jobs are something anyone can do, so long as they have the right tools.
However, replacing an old gas or electric water heater is not one of these. If something goes wrong, you could end up doing considerable damage to your home or even hurting yourself.
First, you have to remove the old water heater. After draining it, a 50-gallon water heater weighs about 80 pounds. Between its shape and where it’s situated, this is usually a two-person job.
Second, you must handle the gas and electrical connections correctly. Again, if you don’t, you’re putting yourself and your home at risk.
Of course, even after you go to the trouble of removing a water heater, you then have to install your new one correctly.
Don’t Wait Until Your Hot Water Is Gone
Ideally, you should call us long before your water heater breaks down completely. That way, we may be able to repair it so that it keeps working for many years to come.
That said, if you’re currently without hot water and live in or around Holmdel, Keyport, Old Bridge, Matawan, or Aberdeen, don’t hesitate to call us at (732) 497-0399.
